Department of South Asian Languages was established in 1973 and its primary purpose is to cater to the professional and official requirements of the Armed Forces personnel and officials of various government agencies/departments.  Department is offering different functional and regular courses with quality education programmers and it facilitates for intensive study in Hindi, Bangla and Bahasa Indonesia Languages and Literature. Its functional aspects include translation, comparative studies, various contemporary discourses etc. Faculty members of the department have designed and floated courses on contemporary relevance and emerging areas which are offered functional and regular courses. The aim is to develop the skills of the students for their career development. Department is adopting innovative practices in teaching, learning and evaluation process. We give much importance in developing the Academic and Communicative skill of students in Hindi, Bangla and Bahasa Indonesia Languages.

Message From Head of Department (HoD)

Our Hindi language department is one of the founding department of the National University of Modern Languages which was established in 1969. Later on, the Department of Bahasa Indonesia was established in 1995. The third component of the Department is the Bangla language, established in 2007. The Department of South Asian Language was established in 2015 and is a unique and important department of NUML in several ways. We have been teaching three vital languages: Hindi, Bangla and Bahasa Indonesia. All modern teaching and learning methodologies have been applied. Our department is proudly training not only Pakistani Nationals but also the seniors officials of Republic of China, United Arab Emirates and Iran. Our department meets the rising demand for learning these languages for different ministries such as Foreign Affairs, Education, and also for international business community. The very motto of the Department of South Asian Languages is to provide quality education with excellent teaching and learning skills. The department has the privilege of having a harmonious and rich values which have played pivotal role in shaping the future of students. Our department has been flourishing under the highly qualified and experienced faculty, who have PhD and MPhill qualification they are also from native countries of India, Bangladesh and Indonesia. They are expert of native language because they have grown up in these countries and get education from best institutions.
